Hosted at the home of DBRE’s President, Debbie Blais, the charity event drew over 90 attendees, who heartily enjoyed a “top shelf” bar thanks to Cardoza's Wine & Spirits of Fairhaven, MA, flowers and a pink and white balloon entry arch thanks to Heritage |

Lung and breast cancer is an epidemic that kills hundreds of thousands of men and women in the United States each and every year. More than 400,000 Americans die of lung disease every year, making it responsible for one out of every six deaths and representing America's number three killer of men and women combined. Breast cancer is the number one health concern for women in America, with an estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer expected to occur among women in the United States and an estimated 40,480 women expected to die from breast cancer during 2008 alone. Although under reported, women are not alone in the battle against breast cancer: an estimated 1,990 men will be diagnosed with and an estimated 450 men will die of breast cancer during 2008 as well.
“Every family in the United States, it seems, including my own, has been confronted at some point with the scary diagnosis of a loved one with lung or breast cancer,” said Debbie Blais, President of DBRE. “Raising money for research and education is vital to preventing deaths and hopefully finding a cure for these diseases in our lifetime. DBRE is committed to doing what it can in support of this fight, and hopes that ‘Cooking for a Cure’ can become an annual event. I thank all those generous individuals and companies who contributed their money, time, and services to the success of this important event. |
